DEBT REDUCTION CAMPAIGN

God is good all the time and all the time God is good!  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Every day, we are living into our vision of Lifting Up Christ—bringing hope and healing to our community and the world. That vision isn’t just words on paper; it’s something we see in action through our missions and ministries that touch so many lives:
  • Hope Harvest Food Pantryoffers much needed food and other supplies to neighbors in need.
  • Second Chance Thrift Shopextends Christ’s hospitality to our community, helps families stretch their budgets, and             supports our food pantry and other   missions through its proceeds.
  • Our Preschool – nurtures young hearts and minds in a loving, faith-centered environment.
  • Sunday morning worshipboth in-person and online, where we gather together as a community to praise God, find                 encouragement, and grow in faith.
  • Wednesday Night Community Table creates space for praise, prayer, fellowship, conversation, and belonging around the     table.
  • KidLift a place where children and youth grow their faith in Jesus through activities designed just for them.
  • Small group Bible studieswhere relationships deepen and our faith is formed together.
  • Scouting – partnering with families to help children and youth grow in character, leadership, and service.

All of these amazing ministries are provided by you, the congregation, by giving of your time, talents, and financial support! These ministries reflect who we are and who God is calling us to be; a church rooted in Christ and committed to sharing hope and healing wherever God sends us.

In August of 2011, the Congregation approved a measure to refinance our mortgage of $1,345,000 by issuing Church Bonds paying bondholders from 1.25% to 6.4% interest on bonds maturing from 6 months to 30 years after issuance.  TMI Trust Company was the registrar and escrow agent for the bond issue.

In August of 2021, 10 years after the first bonds were issued, we took advantage of the opportunity to refinance the outstanding debt of $1,092,696.41 through the Georgia United Methodist Foundation (GUMF). The refinancing involved a total recall of all outstanding Church Bonds.  There were two advantages of refinancing.  The first was we locked in a 4% fixed rate for 5 years (rather than the rate up to 6.4% on the outstanding Church Bonds).  The second advantage was to reduce the loan term from 20 years to 16 years.  Both of these changes have saved thousands of dollars.  Our monthly payment would have been $7,714.39, but the Leadership Board voted to round our payment to $8,000 per month.  This decision was made because we were already paying $8,000 and felt comfortable continuing that amount.  Plus, the additional $285.61 paid each month went to paying down principal (saving even more money).

With the additional principal being paid each month and designated tithes towards principal, our mortgage is down to $702,577.93 as of the end of January 2026!!!!!!!!  That is a reduction of $390,118.48 in our mortgage over 4 and half years!!!!!!  This is cause for much celebration!

On August 16, 2026, our mortgage interest rate will reset for another 5 years. Thirty days before the interest rate is reset, we will receive a letter stating what the new interest rate will be for the next 5 years.  On 1/1/2026, Georgia United Methodist Foundation (GUMF) lowered their interest rates on mortgages from 7% to 6.5%.  We are anticipating our reset rate to be somewhere between 6-6.5%.

To make every dollar stretch to its fullest potential, we are launching Hope for Our House, a debt-reduction campaign focused on paying off our mortgage. Our first goal is to reduce the principal as much as possible before August 16, 2026, when the interest rate is reset. After that milestone, we will continue working toward the long-term goal of becoming a debt-free church.

Freeing up these resources isn’t about the building alone. It’s about what happens because we have been blessed with these church facilities. Reducing our debt will allow us to invest more fully in ministry, respond more freely to needs in our community, and expand our ability to impact lives for God’s kingdom by sharing His hope and healing with others.

Here are a few ways to support this campaign:

  • Cash contributions (monthly or lump sum) (If giving online, please designate gift as “Hope for Our House”)
  • Qualified Charitable Donations from IRAs
  • Life Insurance beneficiary directed to the Church
  • Donor Advised Funds (DAF)
  • Bequests in Wills and Trusts.

It’s really important to remember, any donations to the Hope for Our House campaign needs to be OVER and ABOVE your regular donations so we can continue to keep the current mission and ministries supported.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if our mortgage was ZERO?!  Just think of the ministry and mission opportunities that we could fund when we no longer have a mortgage to pay.

As we give, let us do so with grateful and thankful hearts, trusting that God will multiply our generosity and use it to bless others and share hope in our community and beyond.

God Bless,
