The pandemic and experience of division in our world has placed us in what seems like a prolonged season of brokenness. During our Lenten sermon series, we will be contemplating our scattered and fractured lives using the symbol of broken sea glass. Naturally produced sea glass originates as pieces of glass from broken bottles, tableware, or shipwrecks. The pieces of glass are rolled and tumbled in the sea for many years until the edges are smoothed and the surface becomes polished. Time and adversity can make something beautiful out of that which, once seen as ordinary and broken, is now a transformed and precious treasure. Jesus attended to those considered ordinary, broken, even deemed unworthy, bringing healing and wholeness, just as he wishes to do in our lives today. Restoration is possible because Jesus carried all of our brokenness to the cross and by his wounds, we are healed.  During this Lenten season, may we grow closer each day to the Master Restorer, Jesus Christ, who always sees potential and possibility in the broken pieces of our lives.

Exercise Faith: Strength Training from Ephesians
It’s a new year, which means new resolutions and a fresh opportunity to make some changes in our lives. Typically, our resolutions will include self-improvement goals like a healthier diet, exercising more, taking up a new hobby, or improving our finances. In addition to these goals, let us not forget to include growing in our faith. Our first sermon series of 2021, Exercise Faith, based on Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, will help equip us to grow and strengthen our spiritual muscles. We are God’s workmanship whose fitness plan is to grow us, guide us, guard us, and energize us by His power so we can live fuller lives. Strengthened by his love and fueled by his grace, we will be off to a great start in 2021!

As we gather the lights, ornaments, and tinsel to decorate our homes and the church this year, it may be hard to feel the same Christmas cheer. The year 2020 has been tension-filled with a pandemic, racial justice issues, and a divisive political election. In this unprecedented season, let us remember the hope inspired by the miracle of Jesus’ birth and may we adorn our lives with the hope, peace, joy, and love that the Christ child brings!

The Psalms of Ascent (Psalm 120–134) are a group of 15 psalms that were sung by the Israelites as they journeyed up to Jerusalem three times a year to celebrate the three annual festivals God commanded them to keep. As they walked together, they sang about God’s provision, protection, joy, hope, unity, blessings, and much more. These songs gave encouragement and strength to the pilgrims along the way journeyed through difficult terrain to offer thanksgiving to God. During this sermon series, we will be reflecting on 7 of these psalms, to provide helpful perspective and encouragement for the Christian life journey and to help prepare us for the celebration of Thanksgiving.
