Located in a 100+ year old historic home, Second Chance Thrift Shop has been serving the community since 2009. The Thrift Shop offer gently used, low-priced items for families on a tight budget and bargain hunters alike. We sell clothing for all ages, collectibles, books, linens, decor, books, kitchen items, small furniture, toys, and more. We accept cash, checks, and debit/credit cards. Gift certificates are available.
All proceeds from the shop benefit church missions, ministry, and local nonprofits whose mission aligns with the vison of Brooks United Methodist Church.
Organizations we have donated to include Fayette Care Clinic, Promise Place, Rushton’s Hope, Southwest Christian Hospice, Midwest Food Bank, Five Loves and Two Fish, Hope Harvest Food Pantry, Square Foot Ministries, Fayette Humane Society, Flint Riverkeeper, Wesley Woods, Wellroot Family Services, UMCOR Disaster Relief and other local Disaster Relief efforts.
We also help individuals who have lost their home due to a natural disaster or house fire with clothing and other immediate needs.
DONATING AND VOLUNTEERING
TO DONATE IS EASY!
Just drop off your gently used items anytime on Mondays from 10:00am – 2:00pm and during our business hours:
(Fridays & Saturdays 12-5pm)
We will gladly provide a tax-deductible receipt for your items.
We accept:
Men’s, women’s, kid’s clothing (gently used only –free of stains, holes, pilling, and smells)
Accessories (hats, purses, gloves, scarves, jewelry, shoes)
Kitchen items (dishes, glassware, cookware, utensils, silverware, small appliances in working condition)
Household decor (framed art, vases, figurines, trays, bowls, candle holders, mirrors, lamps, pillows, throws, curtains, etc)
Linens (comforters, bedspreads, sheets, pillowcases, blankets)
Small Furniture (tables, small chairs, small shelving units)
Games, Toys, Puzzles
Books, CD’S, DVD’S, Vinyl LPs
Small Tools
Small Sports Equipment
Arts and Crafts
We are unable to accept:
large furniture, mattresses, large kitchen appliances, microwaves, washer and dryers, large yard equipment(lawn mowers, chain saws, etc), grills, electronics(computers, dvd players, televisions, etc), VHS tapes, cassettes, textbooks, baby furniture, baby car seats.
VOLUNTEERING
IS JUST AN EMAIL AWAY!
Second Chance Thrift Shop is run by people just like YOU looking to volunteer and serve our local community.
(You do not need to be a member of Brooks UMC to help…. just have a heart to volunteer!)
We get together on Mondays to sort through donations and re-stock the shop.
Are you more of a people-person who loves to chat and interested in helping individuals shop? We are always welcoming volunteers to help on Fridays and Saturdays as cashiers and baggers.
